The Banner Heralds are the voice and face of the Vuodji warlords beyond their own domains. Entrusted with the most delicate and high-stakes communications, they deliver declarations of alliance, terms of surrender, challenges to duel, and proclamations of war. When they arrive, it is understood that they speak with the authority of their warlord — and any insult to them is an insult to the warlord themselves.
A Banner Herald’s role is as much performance as diplomacy. They carry the banners and heraldry of their clan, wearing formal battle attire that projects strength and legitimacy. Trained in oratory, etiquette, and clan law, they can navigate the treacherous politics of inter-clan relations and deliver messages in a way that preserves honor while still applying political pressure.
While rarely front-line combatants, Banner Heralds are not defenseless. Many are trained to defend themselves with sidearms, ceremonial blades, or protective magic, particularly when traveling through contested lands. Their presence often precedes war, and their safe return is a matter of clan pride and political necessity.
