Weapons in Cosmic Odyssey are designed not just to deal damage, but to support specific combat skills and tactical choices. Each weapon - whether sword, rifle, or bow - has unique stats like damage versus armor, critical threshold, fumble range and skill bonuses. Damage varies based on the target's armor type, making weapon choice situational.

Weapons are tightly linked to the skill system, and effectiveness often depends more on the wielder's chosen skills and tactics than raw stats. Variants like longswords or carbines offer alternate trade-offs in speed, reach, or precision.

Modern materials ensure even traditional weapons remain viable against advanced armors, blending old and new combat styles across the galaxy.

Weapon Categories

Weapon categories grant proficiency in a specific group of weapons, determining which ones a character can use effectively.Each category covers a broad range of weapons with similar handling.Proficiency in a category allows you to learn all weapons within that group.

Automatic guns are high-rate-of-fire weapons designed for suppressive fire, crowd control, and overwhelming force in sustained combat. This category includes submachine guns, assault rifles, and light machine guns, capable of firing multiple rounds with a single trigger pull. In Cosmic Odyssey, these weapons often feature recoil compensation, heat dissipation systems, and modular targeting tech, allowing users to maintain accuracy during extended engagements. Though they consume ammunition quickly and can be harder to control, their ability to saturate an area with fire makes them ideal for close-quarters battles, ambushes, and suppressive tactics. Favored by commandos, vanguard troops, and heavy assault specialists.

Automatic guns cannot be magical.

Blunt weapons are melee arms designed to deliver crushing force rather than cutting or piercing. This category includes clubs, maces, batons, and warhammers, typically wielded with one or two hands depending on size and build. While they generally lack the finesse of swords or knives, blunt weapons excel at breaking bones, denting armor, and staggering opponents. Most are wielded with one or two hands depending on style and strength. Swords excel in close to mid-range combat, offering sweeping attacks, thrusts, and defensive parries.

In Cosmic Odyssey, swords are forged from advanced alloys designed to cut through modern armor, ensuring their continued relevance on the battlefield. Historically symbols of honor and personal mastery, they remain favored by duelists, guards, and elite warriors for their adaptability and precision.

Thrown weapons are designed for short- to mid-range attacks using muscle power alone. This category includes hand-axes, javelins, darts, and throwing knives - each optimized for flight stability and penetration. They are typically lightweight, balanced for accuracy, and quick to deploy. In Cosmic Odyssey, many thrown weapons are enhanced with modern materials or microtech for improved performance and armor penetration. Though limited by range and the number a character can carry, they offer flexibility, stealth, and surprise in both open combat and ambush situations. Thrown weapons are favored by scouts, hunters, and skirmishers who value mobility and precision over sustained firepower.

Weapons

Weapons in Cosmic Odyssey serve 2 purposes. They deal damage and they support skills. Some weapons are more focused on dealing damage, while others have a more tactical approach. Some weapons are notoriously known for dealing with heavy armor, others for keeping the opponent from moving close and so on. 

Some weapons are variations of other weapons. Those will follow the same damage type, but will have a number of nuances. The most important one will be the skills associated with the weapon, but it can also be the fumble range, initiative bonus, range and critical hit range.
