The Spore Hound is a corrupted descendant of old scavenger breeds, reshaped by centuries of biotech runoff and fungal mutation. Its hide is patchy and uneven, covered in moss-like growths that exhale faint clouds of luminous green spores. Beneath the skin, living mycelium pulses like veins, feeding on both flesh and chemical residue.
These creatures roam polluted wetlands, abandoned biotech zones, and derelict colonies where organic decay meets industrial waste. They hunt by scent and vibration, often appearing moments before a choking spore cloud rolls in. Though not truly intelligent, their fungal symbionts grant them a strange persistence.
When injured, the hound releases a defensive burst of toxic spores that can blur sight and weaken coordination. Packs display uncanny coordination, driven by chemical signals rather than sound, herding prey into areas thick with fungal growth. The stench of damp rot and faint green motes in the dark are often the only warning travelers get before they strike.
Reviled as plague-beasts yet valued by xenobiologists, Spore Hounds play a twisted ecological role—breaking down toxins and reclaiming waste in dying ecosystems. Some frontier scavengers even attempt to domesticate them for hazard detection, though few live long enough to succeed.
Spore Cloud – releases a 3 m toxic burst when damaged (Rolls Spore Burst Skill against DR 80 + target Resilience or –10 DB and resilience for 2 rounds).
Tracking 40, Stealth 55, Endurance 25
Always attacks in packs and usually only when they feel that they have the upper hand.
The pack will often target what they consider to be the easiest target.
Fungal samples valued by xenobiologists and alchemists.
